Police Department NEWS: Board Approves Revisions to Police Department Policy
Mission Statement: To work in partnership with the community, to protect life and property, provide a safe environment, and enhance the experience for all who visit and work at Cal Expo.
About the Cal Expo Police
Department:
Cal
Expo is the only exposition center in the nation with a
full-time year-round police department. The Cal Expo
Police Department acts under the same authority as any
other police department in the state and its sworn
personnel have statewide peace officer powers as
specified in section 830.2(i) of the California Penal
Code.
The Cal Expo police department is staffed by more than 330 peace officers and security guards and operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The peace officers hail from 33 different law enforcement agencies throughout California and bring an accomplished and diversified set of skills to the department, including:
- Bicycle, Mounted, Motorcycle, and Foot Patrol
- Explosives
- Gang Suppression/Probation
- Criminal Investigations
- Site Security
- Crowd Control
- and more
Cal Expo Police Officer
Training:
The Cal
Expo police department has the same training and
equipment standards as other law enforcement operations
in the state. Many officers have decades of experience in the
field and are highly decorated and accomplished. Training
includes, but is not limited to, the following
areas:
- Weapons Qualification
- Crowd Control
- Traffic Control
- Emergency/Disaster Protocol and Response
- Combating Terrorism
Cal Expo Jail:
The
on-site police department is fully equipped and includes
two jail cells that comply with the California
Department of Corrections
standards.
Allied Agency
Support:
Allied
Agency Coordination allows for heightened law
enforcement coordination and assistance year-round. The Cal Expo
Police Department works closely with the following
agencies to keep the grounds safe and
secure:
- Local Sheriff Departments
- Local Police Departments
- California Highway Patrol
- Local Fire Department
- Emergency Medical Services
State Fair Safety &
Security:
The Cal
Expo Police Department works around the clock everyday
of the year to keep the facility secure. During the
California State Fair the department is on heightened
alert keeping the grounds safe for the nearly one million
Californians who come together to enjoy the
festivities.
Fair-time Security Measures
Include:
- Searches - individuals and vehicles
- Video Surveillance - strategically placed Pan Tilt Zoom cameras monitor the grounds
- Explosive Ordinance Detail - Bomb Searches conducted by K-9 teams
- Traffic and Crowd Control
- Awareness and Constant Vigilance
Community
Involvement:
Community partnerships further
enhance security during the State Fair. These

- Volunteer Walk Along Program

- Law Enforcement Explorer/Cadet Program
